Open a document and read side by side

Keep a document, its Traditional Chinese translation and your notes in one workspace. Reading and research are implemented in the development build.

Interface schematic · development build
  1. Open Documents and choose Import documents, or drag supported files into the window. Open an imported document from its card.
  2. Wait for layout analysis. You can read and write notes while it runs; translation, highlights, Study notes and questions become available after the text is analyzed.
  3. Switch View between Original, Translation and Side by side. Use Outline to move between headings and Search this document to search the original and translated text.
  4. Choose Show notes and questions to open the document panel, or Focus reading for a quieter view. Press Esc to leave focus reading.
  • Supported imports: PDF, Word (.docx), Markdown (.md or .markdown) and UTF-8 text (.txt). Older Word (.doc) files must be saved as .docx first.
  • File limits: PDF 200 MiB, Word 100 MiB, Markdown and text 20 MiB. The app reports these limits as MB.
  • PDFs retain their page view. Word, Markdown and text use a flowing view; original Word pagination is not preserved.
  • A scanned PDF without a text layer can be read and used with your own notes. OCR is not available yet, so translation, highlights and questions need a document with extractable text.

The document reader is separate from the meeting workspace. Document questions search documents; meeting Ask searches meeting records.

Translate a page or a document

Translate into Traditional Chinese for Taiwan, with the original still available for comparison.

Translation

PDF page layout · Translation to Traditional Chinese
Interface schematic · development buildTranslation and study notes use the built-in local model.
  1. In Settings, download and select a built-in local model. Translation needs this engine; selecting Ollama or a remote provider does not enable translation.
  2. After analysis, choose Translate document, or Translate this page for the current PDF page.
  3. Use Stop when needed. Completed passages remain saved; choose Continue translating to resume unfinished work.
  4. Choose Translation to read the translated version, or Side by side to compare it with Original. Check passages kept in the original before relying on the translation.
  • The current translation target is Traditional Chinese for Taiwan. Other target languages are not available in the current reader.
  • For PDFs, translated text is placed in the original page’s text areas. It may shrink to fit, and dense passages can clip with a warning; exact visual fidelity is not guaranteed.
  • Word, Markdown and text translations appear as flowing passages rather than a copy of their original page layout.
  • A passage that fails translation checks stays in the original. You can keep reading and return to it later.
  • The reader does not currently export a translated PDF. Scanned PDFs need a text layer before translation can work.

Translation and Study notes use the built-in local model. Document Ask uses the provider selected in Settings, which can be an external service.

Follow citations back to a passage

Move between a claim and the passage it cites without losing the document you are reading.

DocumentsPDF
Interface schematic · development build
  1. In a PDF, open a supported internal link or a recognized numbered reference such as [1] to go to its destination.
  2. For an Ask answer, open a citation under Sources. PDF citations identify a page; flowing documents identify a section.
  3. Read the original passage to check whether it supports the answer. In Study notes, open a cited passage to inspect the basis for a generated point.
  4. After following a link within a PDF, use the return-to-page control to resume the earlier page.
  • Reference linking recognizes supported PDF links and known bracketed numeric references. It does not automatically parse every author–year citation or arbitrary reference style.
  • Document references, Ask sources and Study note passage links have different purposes. Opening a numbered bibliography reference does not fetch or read the cited paper.
  • Citation destinations depend on extracted text and the original file’s links. If a source is not linked, use the document search or outline to inspect it.

Citations make the source easier to inspect; check important names, numbers and conclusions in the original passage.

Keep highlights, notes and Study notes

Collect useful passages, add your interpretation and generate section-level key points with links back to the source.

  1. Open a passage’s actions and choose Highlight. In Highlights, add a Comment and choose a Color if helpful.
  2. Choose Quote in notes to insert a passage with its source link into Notes. Write alongside it using Markdown; use Preview to read the result.
  3. Open Study notes and choose Write study notes. A built-in local model works section by section and saves generated points with passage links.
  4. Open those links to check the generated points. Use Stop if needed, or Write again to retry incomplete sections. Choose Copy as Markdown in Notes to take your own notes elsewhere.
  • Your Markdown notes and generated Study notes are separate. Study notes summarize section key points; they are not a separate whole-document summary editor.
  • Highlights and Study notes need analyzed text. You can still write your own notes while analysis runs, or while reading a scanned PDF.
  • Translation and Study notes require a built-in local model. If it is unavailable or busy, set it up in Settings or try again later.
  • If you analyze the layout again, unchanged passages retain translations, highlights and note links. Changed passages need translation again; Study notes citing changed passages are removed.
  • Deleting a document removes Studio’s stored file, translation, highlights, notes and Study notes. It does not remove copies you made elsewhere.

Wait for Saved after editing Notes. If saving fails, preserve your text before leaving the document.

Interface schematic · development build
  1. Open Ask in the document panel. Wait until analysis and preparation for questions have finished.
  2. Set Ask about to This document or All documents. Write a specific question and choose Ask.
  3. Open the citations under Sources to check the answer against a page or section.
  4. Ask a new question with the details it needs. Previous turns are not sent as conversational context.
  • This document limits retrieval to the open document; All documents searches the document collection. This is separate from meeting Ask.
  • Ask uses the provider selected in Settings. With an external provider, your question and retrieved source passages are sent to that provider.
  • Scanned PDFs without extractable text cannot be used for document questions. If a document is still being prepared, wait and try again.
  • Answers can be incomplete or unsupported. Narrow the scope, ask a more specific question and inspect the cited passages.

This is document question answering. A continuing AI team conversation and multi-agent research comparison are still planned.
